CAF Confederation Cup: Nsoatreman FC record famous win over Elect Sport

CAF Confederation Cup: Nsoatreman FC record famous win over Elect Sport
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Nsoatreman FC commenced their maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign with an emphatic win over Elect Sport of Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ghana’s sole representative in the competition exercised their attacking muscles in the last fifteen minutes of the first half to register three quick goals to tame their counterparts in the all-important fixture. Coach Yaw Preko, who was appointed in July as a replacement for Maxwell Konadu, led Nsoatreman FC to a historic 3-0 win against Elect Sport of Chad on Sunday afternoon. The Nsoatre-based outfit dominated the early minutes of the game with the hopes of netting the opener before the half-hour mark, but their efforts were denied by the Elect Sport shot-stopper. Two-goal hero Abdul Rahman opened the floodgate for the Ghanaian side with a cool finish in the 31st minute of the game. Two minutes later, former Ghana U20 winger Kwabena Adu Meider doubled the lead for Nsoatreman FC with a fine strike before Abdul Rahman connected a low cross from Shaibu Iddrisu in the 36th minute. Elect Sport FC woes were deepened when their goalkeeper, Mahamat Bechir, received a red card for handling outside his area in the 54th minute of the game. Winger Stephen Diyou came close to extending their lead to four, but his drive was denied by the woodwork in the 70th minute. Nsoatreman FC goalkeeper Daniel Afazdwu was not left on holiday in the last twenty minutes of the match, as he made three magnificent saves to rescue his side from conceding in their first-ever game in the CAF Confederation Cup. Despite the introduction of Benjamin Tsivanyo, Collins Cudjoe, Caleb Asamoah, and Mark Agyekum in the second half, Nsoatreman FC failed to capitalize on their counterparts being manless to increase their tally as the game ended 3-0. The second-leg tie will be played in N’Djamena on August 24, 2024
