Asante Kotoko secured a slim advantage in the CAF Confederation Cup after edging Nigeria’s Kwara United 4-3 in a pulsating first-leg preliminary clash at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21.

The Porcupine Warriors started brightly, with Emmanuel Antwi opening the scoring from an Albert Amoah cross.

Kwara responded through Johnmark Aule, but Amoah restored Kotoko’s lead just before halftime. Aule struck again almost immediately, sending the game into the break level at 2-2.

Kotoko regained control after the restart, as Joseph Ablorh headed home before Amoah converted a penalty to make it 4-2.

Kwara, however, kept the contest alive, with Shola Abdulraheem pulling one back late on to set up a tense second leg in Ilorin next week.

Kotoko will carry their narrow lead to Nigeria, knowing they must tighten their defence, with Kwara proving they have the firepower to trouble the Ghanaian giants on home soil.
