Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have qualified for the group stage of the 2023/2024 CAF Champions League after eliminating Guinea giants Horoya AC.

Medeama beat Horoya 4-3 on aggregate to secure their first-ever CAF Champions League group stage qualification.

They beat Horoya 3-1 in the first leg before losing 2-1 in the second leg to achieve the historic feat.

Jonathan Sowah gave Medeam the lead in the game from the spot after 24 minutes but Horoya levelled the score two minutes later through Ocansey Mandela.

Medeama remained resolute as they ended the first period in a draw.

In the second half, Horoya had a strong start but could not put themselves in front as they trailed by two goals on aggregate.

The home side eventually took a deserving lead in the 76 minutes through Mohammed Keita.

Despite a dominant performance, they could not send the game into a penalty shootout as Medeama kept them at bay to end the match 2-1.

The result earned Ghanaian side a place in the Champions League group stage, making them the first Ghanaian team to do so since Berekum Chelsea in 2012.
