According to a report by Kasapa FM on Saturday, 6th September, 1025, a serious road accident has happened at Kormantse on the Cape Coast–Mankessim highway, leaving several people feared dead and many others badly injured.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025, shocking residents and travelers who use the busy highway daily.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident was so severe that some passengers were trapped in the vehicles involved. Rescue officials from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) quickly rushed to the scene to help save lives. They were joined by other emergency stakeholders, including the police and health workers, who worked together to manage the situation.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, but preliminary information suggests that overspeeding and careless overtaking might have played a role.
The Cape Coast–Mankessim stretch is one of the busiest highways in the Central Region, and it has recorded several accidents in the past. Many transport unions and safety campaigners have often called for stricter road safety measures on this road.
Some of the injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment, while the dead bodies were conveyed to the mortuary. Health officials say the number of casualties could rise because some of the injured are in very critical condition.
Residents of Kormantse and passersby gathered around the scene, visibly shaken by the gory nature of the accident. Many expressed sadness over the loss of lives and appealed to drivers to be extra careful on the highway to prevent such tragedies.
As of now, the Ghana Police Service has taken charge of the scene and is conducting investigations into how the accident happened. Authorities are also working to clear the wrecked vehicles from the road to restore smooth traffic flow.
This unfortunate accident has once again raised concerns about road safety in Ghana. Stakeholders are urging drivers to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and ensure that passengers arrive safely at their destinations.
