Buttey Steps In As Acting Chair for NPP Amid Ntim’s Health-Related Leave

NPP To Hold National Annual Delegates Conference

Danquah Smith Buttey, First Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has taken the helm of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in place of National Chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim, who is on medical leave.

This temporary leadership change comes after Mr. Ntim’s family formally requested his exemption from party duties, citing health concerns. In a letter dated June 16, 2025, the family disclosed that Mr. Ntim is suffering from “cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation,” and urged the party’s Council of Elders to prioritize his well-being over political responsibilities.

Signed by family members, including Kingsley Oteng (Family Head) and MP Adelaide Ntim, the letter emphasized the Chairman’s longstanding service to the party while underscoring his need for immediate rest and treatment. The family warned that further involvement in political activities could worsen his condition.

As a result, Mr. Buttey is presiding over the June 17 NEC meeting at the Alisa Hotel. The session is focused on reviewing the party’s Constitutional Review Committee findings, discussing internal reforms, and planning for the 2024 general elections.

Citi News has confirmed that the meeting is ongoing, with Mr. Buttey currently acting in Mr. Ntim’s stead.
