A bus carrying about 60 children who had participated in a football tournament has been involved in an accident on the Kwahu mountain, resulting in the loss of several lives.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 24, 2024, around 3 to 4 am.

It is believed the bus experienced brake failure while descending the Kwahu Mountain.

One of the surviving footballers who was transported to the hospital together with other injured persons using Nkawkaw based Agoo FM’s vehicle narrated the cause of the incident, saying, “We came to participate in the 32-club tournament at Kwahu Obo and were heading back to Ada. The bus was fully loaded, and as we descended, it started swaying from left to right until it eventually overturned. Our team is called Monarch FC.”

It is not immediately known the number of children who have died.

Emergency response teams, including the Fire Service and Police, were at the scene, working to rescue injured passengers and recover the bodies of those who lost their lives.

Local taxi drivers and residents have also been assisting in the rescue efforts.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, as police investigations are ongoing to determine what may have led to this unfortunate incident.

The injured have been taken to Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital for treatment.
