In Dolinguo, a farming community in the Sanuor Electoral Area of the Wa West District, two individuals reportedly perished when the structure in which they were sleeping collapsed.

Suon-Yir Mader, who was in his early 60s, and his son, Suon-Yir Kwabena, who was also in his mid-30s, have since been buried, while an eight-year-old primary three student who was injured in the incident is presently fighting for his life at the Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa.

Mr. Robert Niitey Yobier, the Assembly Member for the area, verified this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa, stating that the incident occurred between 23:00 and midnight on Saturday night.

“The father attended a funeral in Sanuori and returned that evening, while his son returned from the south that same evening.” They exchanged pleasantries, and the father requested a mat to lie on in the chamber, whereupon the son and the younger boy joined him.

“The structure had a deep fissure; it was one of those that are clad in wood and mud; therefore, in the middle of the night, a portion of the wall collapsed on the father and son, smashing their heads and chests and injuring the young boy.

Because everyone was at the funeral, a female who was present yelled for assistance”, the assembly member explained.

He stated that he had informed the Wa West District Chief Executive (DCE), Madam Vida Diorotey, about the incident and was determining how the assembly could assist the family, stating, “The family is devastated by the tragic incident.”
