The appointment of Brigadier Ashong was announced in a statement by Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

“Brig. Gen. Annan, a seasoned and highly respected officer of the Ghana Army, is tasked with resetting the Customs Division and supporting the GRA in achieving its revenue targets as part of the government’s broader efforts to fix the economy,” the statement said.

Brigadier Ashong, until his appointment, was the Presidential Security Coordinator and is said to bring extensive experience in security and administration to his new role.
