Carlos Queiroz has confirmed that he and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have mutually agreed to terminate the service agreement governing his role as head coach of the Black Stars.
The decision comes shortly after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which included a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire and a 4-2 loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a statement, Queiroz said the decision followed discussions held in a spirit of mutual respect, with both parties agreeing that ending their professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action under the circumstances.
He said the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football remained the priority.
Queiroz expressed gratitude to the GFA, particularly its President, for the opportunity to lead the national team, while also thanking his technical staff and everyone who supported the team.
He also paid tribute to the Black Stars players, urging Ghanaians to continue believing in and supporting them.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them.”
Queiroz said the players possess the talent and potential to achieve significant success if provided with unity, support and the right environment.
The Portuguese coach was reappointed by the GFA in September after his initial mandate, which included Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, ended. The Association had described his international experience and knowledge of the Black Stars as important to the next phase of the team’s programme.
However, the latest development follows a turbulent AFCON qualifying campaign and renewed scrutiny of the broader management of Ghanaian football.
Queiroz ended his statement with a message of gratitude to the country and the Black Stars supporters.
“Ghana comes first.
The Black Stars come first.
Ghanaian football comes first.
Thank you, Ghana.
To the Future.”
