Brand akpeteshie for international market’

Popular locally brewed alcoholic drink, ‘Akpeteshie’, has been described as having the potential to attract more foreign exchange income for the country when properly branded and marketed internationally.

Honorary Consul-General at Ghana’s Consulate in Hungary, Boldizsar Peter Entz, the who made the prediction during an interview with the DAILY GUIDE in Hungary, said ‘Akpeteshie’ is one of the best alcoholic drinks in the world now.

“Alcohol has a big potential so Ghanaians should make plans and take advantage of their locally brewed ‘Akpeteshie’ and generate the needed foreign exchange income to support the economy”, Mr. Entz who once lived in Ghana admonished.

According to him, areas such as packaging, tasting, flavouring and marketing should be critically looked into in order to make ‘Akpeteshie’ an international brand.

Mr. Entz also suggested that ‘Akpeteshie’ manufacturers in Ghana should start thinking of blending the alcoholic drink with other fruits in order to give it a new and delicious taste.

He was speaking with the paper at the National Agriculture and Food Exhibition and Fair 2023 (OMEK) in Budapest, Hungary.

Farmers in the host country and the neighbouring countries use the fair to display their farm products and machinery.

A delegation from Ghana, made up of some prominent businessmen with special interest in farming products and machinery, attended this year’s OMEK Fair to share their experiences and also learn from their colleagues in Hungary.

Mr. Entz said the OMEK Fair has several advantages for businesses, especially farmers who display their farm products and machinery at the show, urging Ghanaian businesses to also take advantage.

“Aside increasing your market share and getting more profit, the OMEK Fair will also make it possible for you to meet new people for possible partnerships, and that’s why I am recommending OMEK Fair for Ghanaian businesses,” he said.

On his part, Edmund Kyei, a member of the Ghana delegation attending the 2023 OMEK Fair, also stressed on the need for the two countries to work closely together, especially in the area of business to help improve their economies.
