Two out of Five persons has lost their lives after a tree accident this morning at Wadim, a suburb of Berekum. The two, all-female, were confirmed dead at nine this morning at the Berekum Government Hospital.

Kwasi Asante, an eyewitness to the accident, narrated to Akomapa FM’s midday news team that, the driver of the vehicle, had caused the accident without knowing. The tree, a Wawa tree, situated next to an abandoned cold store, had died after its roots were destroyed by some residents of Wadim.

They turned the area as refuse damp and burnt all their refuse there and that killed the tree. The tree was hollow standing but deep down, its roots were all dead and a slight push would have caused the tree to fall.

It was just unfortunate for the driver of the Kia Bongo Truck to have fallen victim to the tree. It was an accident he drove into without knowing, Kwesi Asante narrated Akomapa 89.3 FM this afternoon.

The driver of the Kia Bongo truck, receiving treatment at the Berekum Government Hospital, was carrying building materials (cement and iron rods) to a house at Wadim when he fell into the traps of the dead Wawa tree. The truck, with its heavyweight due to the cement and iron rods, caused the tree to fall when it passed beneath it.

The tree fell on the passenger side of the Bongo truck killing the two female passengers all seated in the front seat. The two passengers were taking the loaded cement and iron rods to their father’s site for construction when they met their deaths this morning at Wadim.

The driver of the Kia Bongo truck along with two loading boys sitting on the bucket of the truck all sustained various degrees of injuries and has been admitted to the Berekum Government Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
