Blay Warns NPP Against Complacency

THE NATIONAL Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie W. Blay, has warned his party members against becoming complacent ahead of the crucial December 7 elections.

He said even though the NPP has a greater chance of winning the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, the party members should not allow complacency to draw them back.

Mr. Blay charged every member of the ruling political party to confront the general election with all the seriousness it deserves so that the party’s target of retaining political power would become a reality.

“We are the favourites to win the elections because President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration has performed exceptionally in political office in less than four years but we should guard against complacency, bearing in mind that our electoral victory would not be presented to us on a silver platter,” Freddie Blay said during the Ashanti Regional NPP Campaign launch yesterday.

Held at the Great Hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, the NPP used the occasion to introduce its 47 parliamentary candidates in the region.

Mr. Blay described the Ashanti Region as the heartbeat of the NPP, indicating that the party was counting heavily on the region to lead the NPP victory for election 2020.

He, therefore, charged NPP members in the region to individually and collectively start campaigning harder than ever to help the party increase its votes in the region to help them retain power.

Mr. Blay said he was expecting the NPP to win most of the valid votes cast during the December 7 polls as has been the case in the years past, stressing that the country always needs the NPP in political office.

According to him, the country always prospers whenever NPP government is in political office; therefore, the party members should not let the country down, saying “we need to chase every eligible vote.”

Mr. Blay said the NPP should not only think about winning the 2020 elections and pointed out that the party should also work to prolong their stay in political office for many years to help accelerate national development.

“We should not target to win only the 2020 polls but also the 2024, 2028 and 2032 elections as well, so that the country would not derail from the path of prosperity that President Nana Akufo-Addo has started,” he said.

Laud Commey, the Director of Operations at the Presidency, one after the other, introduced all the 47 NPP parliamentary candidates to the party members, who welcomed them with shouts.

The historic programme was graced by national, regional, constituency and polling station executives of the party in the region. The party’s red, white and blue colours were seen all over the event ground.
