A political analyst Mr. Alex Emmanuel Nti who doubles as a financial engineer has stated that, president Akufo Addo must be blamed for the continuous stay in office of Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta because majority of Ghanaians have called for his dismissal since 2022.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s late afternoon show EBAANOSEN hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Nti said President Akufo-Addo pleaded for more time for Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to conclude negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before any talks of resignation.
This, the President believes, could have been disrupted if Ken Ofori-Atta had been sacked or forced to resign.
That was an outcome of a meeting held by President Akufo-Addo and NPP Members of Parliament over the demand for the finance minister to be sacked over his handling of the economy.
“But as of now President Akufo Addo has not done or said anything to replace Ken Ofori Atta as his party members demanded,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has urged the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to consider stepping down for both his own sake and the good of the government.
The calls for Ofori-Atta’s resignation have been growing for months, fueled by the country’s ongoing economic challenges.
“For me, what is very frightening is the fact that you have a whole army of people saying look you’ve had enough…I think that that could be a way for him to relax
Atta-Akyea went further, stating that Ofori-Atta’s resignation might even contribute to calmer waters for both the government and the nation
“He should look at himself and look at the troubles that everybody believes, I mean when he is not there then the nation will have peace…He should save himself and save the government and have his peace because he needs it,” Mr Atta Akyea said.
Mr Atta Akyea also criticized individuals who blame Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the country’s economic woes.
Atta Akyea insisted that the vice president was in a very serious adversary role that prevented him from making some sensitive decisions for the country.
