Black Stars rocked as Mohammed Salisu ruled out of World Cup with ACL injury

Black Stars rocked as Mohammed Salisu ruled out of World Cup with ACL injury

Ghana Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is set to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup according to GetFrenchFootball.

Salisu picked up the injury in AS Monaco’s 3-1 loss to Olympique Lyon in the French Ligue 1 this past weekend. Salisu was one of three players for Monaco who picked up an injury in the loss.

The 26 year old, who has made 18 appearances in all competitions in the 20252-2026 season, was in the middle of his best run of action after enduring a tough start to the campaign where he battled injuries and lack of playing time.

Salisu played 90 minutes in the loss to Lyon but suffered the injury that has pretty much ended his chances of playing in this year’s World Cup.

The defender played at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was in line to play in his second World Cup after excelling as one of Ghana’s best performing players based abroad.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L with England, Croatia and Panama; the Black Stars will play two games in the US with its game against Panama scheduled to be played in Canada.

Salisu’s injury adds to quite a significant list of Black Stars players who have suffered ACL injuries in recent years. Lyon’s Ernest Nuamah, Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Daniel Kofi Kyereh of SC Freiburg have suffered the same injury.
