Bawku township deserted after military raid
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Bawku township has been deserted following a military raid on Thursday (12 September).

The raid was prompted by a shooting incident that occurred yesterday (12 September).

Unconfirmed reports indicate that gunmen targeted a tricycle rider who had gone into town to buy carpenter’s wood. The rider is said to have narrowly escaped injury.

The sound of gunfire drew the attention of the police and military, who arrived at the scene. According to the police, residents may have assisted the attackers in fleeing.

The military’s operation aimed to apprehend the gunmen, and as part of restoring order, soldiers instructed local shops to close. There have been some unconfirmed reports of brutality towards residents on the streets, but calm has since been restored.
