Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South Kweku George Ricketts Hagan has expressed surprise at Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Ernest Addison’s response to the #OccupyBoG protest.
The #OccupyBoG protest was organized and led by the minority in Parliament to demand for the resignation of the leadership of the Central Bank led by the Governor Dr. Ernest Addison.
Dr. Ernest Addison in an interview with international business news portal stated that he will not resign and dismissed the demonstration as unnecessary.
In a sharp response, former deputy Finance Minister and Cape Coast South MP Kweku George Ricketts Hagan said the Governor’s comments are a bit “rich” coming from Dr. Ernest Addison.
Speaking to Sena Nombo on Radio Gold’s Gold Morning Conversation, the MP said the Governor of the Bank of Ghana should be the last person calling anyone a hooligan considering his illegal conduct that has led to the loss of billions of cedis to the country.
He said the Central Bank under the tutelage of Governor Ernest Addison has acted in flagrant breach of the parameters and laws enshrined in the constitution, the Banking Act, and the Public Financial Management Act, which are supposed to guide the operations of the bank.
The MP stated that “the Bank of Ghana was a den of anarchists, a den of thieves, and serious criminal activities are being perpetrated within the Bank of Ghana.”
“The Occupy Bank of Ghana demonstration aimed to halt the wrongdoing within the Bank of Ghana” Kweku George Ricketts Hagan stated.
