The senior principal investigator and leader of public education for the Commission of Human Rights in Tema Mr John Ato Brebo (Uncle Ato) has stated that bad governance, corporate or program, refers to a situation where an organization fails to adhere to principles and practices that ensure accountability, transparency, fairness, and effective oversight of its operations is a key or major way to poverty in the country.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, lifestyle and relationship show NYANSAPO FIE on the Topic “POVERTY” hosted by Nana Asabea Asare, Uncle Ato Stressed that corruption, implementation of unfair policies, and deception and the effects of poor governance are a failed state, poor economic growth, and an increased corruption rate.
He said corruption weakens democratic institutions, perverts the rule of law, discourages investment and aid, undercuts public confidence in government, feeds inequality and disenfranchises large segments of the population.
Uncle Ato said, that corruption also erodes the trust the populace has in the public sector to act in their best interests. It wastes taxes and rates meant for important community projects. This results in poor quality services or infrastructure, or projects never getting off the ground leading to extreme poverty on citizens.
