Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, has firmly denied allegations of vote buying following the party’s just-ended parliamentary primaries in the constituency.

In a press release, Mr Jamal said his attention had been drawn to a government communication recalling him as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria over claims of electoral malpractice during the primaries. The statement, he noted, referenced an earlier release by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, which condemned the alleged conduct and called for investigations.

Mr Jamal stated categorically that he had not engaged in vote buying or any form of electoral malpractice, stressing his readiness to cooperate fully with any investigations into the matter.

“I wish to state categorically that I have not engaged in any vote buying or election malpractices and I am ready to avail myself to assist the party in its investigations at any time,” the statement said.

Despite the development, the Ayawaso East MP expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve Ghana as High Commissioner to Nigeria, describing the appointment as a great honour.

He also thanked delegates and supporters of the NDC in Ayawaso East for the confidence reposed in him, following his victory in the party’s primaries, which positions him to lead the party into the parliamentary by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026.
