Ayawaso East by-election: Global InfoAnalytics poll projects victory for Baba Jamal

President Mahama recalls Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria over vote-buying allegations

A new survey by Global InfoAnalytics indicates a commanding lead for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Baba Jamal, ahead of the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

The poll, conducted between February 28 and March 1, sampled 972 voters across the constituency. Findings from the research place Baba Jamal significantly ahead of his closest competitor, Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the projections, the NDC flagbearer is tipped to secure 75 per cent of the vote, while the NPP candidate is forecast to obtain 21 per cent.

Independent aspirant Umaru Sanda Muhammed, who recently severed ties with the NDC, is projected to receive about 3 per cent support.

The survey further suggests that the remaining candidates, Ibrahim Iddrisu and David, are each expected to garner less than one per cent of total ballots cast, highlighting what appears to be a largely two-horse race between the NDC and NPP.

The by-election became necessary following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away in January while undergoing treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, leaving the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat vacant.
