National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), says the unavailability of rest stops on major highways is the cause for tired or fatigue driving, leading to road crashes.

Mr Henry Asomanin Planning and programming manager for NRSA in interview with Bohyeba Afriyie on Plan B Fm’s ‘Ebaanosen’ stated that fatigue driving had been identified as one of the major causes of road traffic crashes and a threat to anyone behind the wheel or on the highways.

He indicated that there’s the need for the provision of rest stops on major highways in the country.

He added that, preliminary investigation conducted by the Authority revealed that, 50 per cent of fatal crashes occurred due to fatigue driving as well as indiscriminate parking of heavy and long goods vehicles.

Concluding he called on the Government to make available more rest stops on most highways.
