Auditor-General’s recoveries hit GH¢31.5m – Money transferred to Consolidated Fund

2021 A-G Report: Over 1b Lost To Irregularities At MDAs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Auditor-General’s Recoveries Account has made significant progress in retrieving unearned salaries and embezzle public funds, marking a major step in ensuring financial accountability and transparency in Ghana’s public sector.

Since its establishment in June 2022, the account has successfully recovered GH¢31.5 million, which has now been transferred to the Consolidated Fund. This initiative was introduced to streamline the collection of disallowed expenditures and recoverable funds, making it easier for individuals and institutions to fulfill their financial obligations.

According to Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, the previous system for recovering state funds was inefficient and difficult to track. The introduction of the centralized Recoveries Account has now simplified the process, enhancing transparency and accessibility. The recovered funds have been deposited into the Consolidated Fund in line with Article 176 of the 1992 Constitution, which requires all public revenues to be directed into this account unless otherwise specified by law.
