Ato Forson: Ghana’s economy was worse than Akufo-Addo claimed

Minority In Parliament Pledges To Oppose Momo Tax

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has accused the former Akufo-Addo administration of concealing the true state of Ghana’s economy, creating false hopes among citizens.

In a March 12 interview, a day after presenting the 2025 Budget, Dr. Forson revealed that the real economic situation only became evident after the Mahama-led government assumed office.

He criticized the previous government for lacking transparency about Ghana’s financial struggles, which he believes prevented citizens from fully understanding the depth of the crisis.

“We thought things were improving, only to realize the true scale of the problem once we took over. I have always maintained that the previous government failed to present the actual state of the economy,” he asserted.

Dr. Forson further argued that despite claims of economic recovery, the policies implemented did not reflect real progress.

“If you examine the policies and economic transmissions, they don’t align with an economy that has turned the corner. We were not getting the right measures to steer us out of the crisis,” he noted.
