The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has denied any involvement in the incident in which angry youths attacked members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

Speaking on Adom TV on Monday, November 3, 2025, the lawmaker stated that reports linking him to the incident were inaccurate, emphasising that he did not lead any mob to attack the soldiers.

He questioned why he, as a lawmaker, would take actions to frustrate the work of NAIMOS when they are working to combat the illegal mining menace facing the country.

“I am following the news and the reports are not what they claim it is. I have not led any mob to attack NAIMOS. In fact, NAIMOS are working in the interest of Ghana and as a parliamentarian, there is no occasion where I will rise up or try to frustrate the works they are doing or mobilise mobs to attack them. It can never happen,” he stated.

Kwaku Addo also denied reports that he mobilised local youths to gather at the Ahafo Hwediem Police Station.

He explained that he was on his way to a funeral and went there to help calm the situation that had unfolded, also commending the soldiers for their composure despite facing aggression.

“How can I mobilise 600 thugs to attack state security when I was on my way to a funeral? I rather commend the soldiers for their conduct in the face of provocation and agitation from the youth. They were very calm. I went there to help restore calm,” he added.

The lawmaker had been accused by Erastus Asare Donkor, a media personality, of storming the illegal mining site with thugs to demand the release of arrested illegal miners, including a Burkinabe national.

Erastus, in a Facebook post on November 2, 2025, alleged that Addo and another MP, Collins Dauda, were involved, stating that Addo claimed he was sent by Dauda.

“While arrangements were being made to convey the suspects to the Hwidiem Police Station, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, arrived at the scene with several thugs. The MP indicated that he was sent by Hon Collins Dauda, MP for the area and demanded that the Director releases the arrested kingpins including a Burkinabe immediately and remove their handcuffs, arguing that he did not want the locals to see them in handcuffs. The Director politely declined the unlawful request, maintaining that the arrests were appropriate and that the right procedure be followed through to the Police.

“Subsequently, the MP and the thugs became violent and forcefully snatched the handcuffs keys from one of the soldiers and took the handcuffs off the kingpins before chasing the NAIMOS team whiles going to the police station. Upon arrival at the Hwidiem Police Station to lodge a report and hand over the suspects and exhibits, a crowd of about six hundred (600) people from Hwidiem and nearby communities surrounded the station. The mob, incited by Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, demanded the immediate release of the arrested suspects and seized vehicles. They warned that they would “discipline” the soldiers if their demands were ignored,” he stated.
