Ashanti Region: 46-year-old Contractor To Pay GH¢45,000 For Destroying Pipelines

Ashanti Region: 46-year-old Contractor To Pay GH¢45,000 For Destroying Pipelines

46-year-old Mensah Lesley, a contractor at Odumasi, has been apprehended by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) branch office at Konongo Odumasi for destroying four major pipelines this morning. The Area(District) Head Engineer, Ing Baffour Daniel at the Konongo Odumasi District office of the GWCL in leading the arrest, accused Mensah Lesley of destroying pipelines that connect to an intersection.

He has destroyed our major intersection pipelines which serves eight different communities. They knew pipelines were beneath the ground and still went doing their illegal activities without proper authorization from the Assembly or the GWCL district office.

We found out eight communities; Abosomtwi Agya, Abeboaso, Bomiresu, Ohenekwnata, Agyareago, Free Town, Low Cost and Akranteabesa were all without water this morning when residents phoned to question about the shortage of water. We traced the fault to the main intersection beneath the Konongo Free Town.

The eight communities had been cut off on water supply when Mensah and his workers broke the main intersection pipeline at Konongo Free Town, Ing Baffour Daniel of the Konongo Odumasi GWCL District office stated before causing the arrest of Mensah Lesley and his workers. Mensah and his team of six workers, will be paying a total tune of GH¢45,000 before they can be set free, Ing Baffour Daniel hinted.

The cost of repairing the damage is GH¢45,000 per our estimate, and they will be made to pay the full cost, Ing Baffour Daniel stated in their willingness to see Mensah paying for the full cost of repairs. Mensah and his team are still behind bars at the Konongo police station.
