The Ashaiman District Police have arrested three persons for allegedly keeping in their possession unlawful narcotics substance believed to be Indian hemp popularly referred to as ‘wee’.
The arrested persons are mentioned as Kofi Asmah, a 29-year-old driver, Michael Kwame Adu, a 27-year-old driver who was in charge of the vehicle they were driving in when they were arrested and Frank Nketiah, a 20-year-old footballer.
The suspects, according to the police were conveying 46 slabs of the dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp or cannabis to an unknown part of Ashaiman when they were intercepted and subsequently arrested.
Briefing the media about the arrest, the Public Relations Officer for the Tema Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Stella Dede Dzakpasu, noted that last Wednesday January 20, 2021 at about 9am, the police in Ashaiman gathered intelligence to the effect that a wine coloured Hyundai Jet car with registration number GT 3294-20 which was heading towards Ashaiman township with three occupants on board was loaded with from Afariwaa junction had some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to the police PRO, the source added that the suspects were driving through Bethlehem, an Ashaiman suburb. She continued that the police quickly proceeded to the area, intercepted the said car and arrested the suspects.
A search which was reportedly conducted on the suspects by the Police revealed 46 slabs of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp mixed with some quantity of camphor concealed in a plastic bag popularly known as “Ghana Must Go”.
The suspects according to the PRO are currently in police custody assisting the police with investigations. The vehicle which the suspects were driving at the time of their arrest has been impounded. The suspected narcotics has also been retrieved and retained for evidential purposes during prosecution.
