Arsenal OUT of Europa League on penalties as Man Utd win vs Betis

Arsenal have been eliminated from the Europa League after losing to Sporting Lisbon on penalites.

The Gunners went ahead inside 20 minutes, Granit Xhaka finishing coolly after Gabriel Martinelli’s initial shot had been saved by Antonio Adan.

The North London side lost Tomiyasu and William Saliba to injury either side of Xhaka’s goal as they went in at the break 1-0 ahead, leading 3-2 on aggregate.

Sporting were level just after the hour mark and in remarkable circumstances.

Pedro Goncalves spotted Aaron Ramsdale off his line and brilliantly lobbed the England goalkeeper from just inside the Arsenal half.

Neither side could find a winner in normal time at the Emirates Stadium as the game went into extra-time and into a penalty shootout – Gabriel Martinelli eventually seeing his effort saved.
