Sheikh Nuhu Shaributu, the National Chief Imam has regretted the growing rate of unemployment and corruption in the country under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government.
Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, a spokesperson to the National Chief Imam made this known when he read a speech on behalf of the Imam. He noted that despite the efforts by the government to improve the lives of Ghanaians, there was still a rising rate of unemployment among our youth of this country which needs to be tackled as soon as possible.
According to him the lack of employment opportunities in the country jobs has contributed to the youth engaging in various social vices which he said is disturbing.
He pointed out that corruption remains a serious problem and a perception that is going round that needs to be tackled with all the effort and support of all regardless of one’s political background. He continued that the availability of jobs for the youth will drastically reduce the recorded social vices that these youth engage from time to time.
Touching on another issue he felt needs serious attention, the Chief Imam mentioned national security adding that it has become a challenge. He stated that the situation where people especially young people desire to get rich overnight compel them to engage in criminal activities was becoming one too many and quickly urged the President Akufo-Addo to put in measures to deal with such menace.
Another issue he mentioned is that political polarization. According him it remains a problem and appealed to the President to get it addressed. He commended the President for what is described as renewed efforts in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
“I must also commend your government for the measures you put in place to fight the coronavirus outbreak which has hit every part of the world and continues to affect so many people” he remarked.
Concluding, the Chief Imam praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his position on same-sex relationships which he described as predatory and against the cultural values of Ghana.
