A group of armed robbers have robbed a very popular supermarket in Tarkwa, in the Western Region, RANSBET Supermarket to the tune of GHS107,214 on Monday, October 18.

According to an eyewitness, a bullion van from one of the popular banks was at the RANSBET Supermarket to collect their sales for the weekend to be credited to its account. The officers of the bank parked their vehicle at the parking space waiting for the money.

As a staff of the supermarket was bringing out the money to the officers of the bank, the two male robbers who came with a motorcycle rushed on her and out of fear, handed over the money to them and ran back inside the supermarket.

They started firing warning shots to disperse the crowd after taking the money to make way for easy penetration.

The driver of the bullion van tried to chase the armed robbers but due to the crowd and traffic in the area, the motor had its way through and left without a trace.

Onlookers who were at the scene became worried about how the armed robbers were able to know that monies will be transported from the Supermarket at that particular point in time.

The Tarkwa Divisional police command moved to the scene to ascertain the situation and investigations have begun. In the meantime, the supermarket is still operating amidst fear and panic.

The other aspect of the issue according to eyewitnesses whose name has been given as Stephen Amoah in a Telephone interview with Skyy Power FM in Takoradi, the bullion van of the bank came without a police escort.
