Players and officials of Berekum Chelsea were left shaken after their team bus was attacked by armed robbers while returning from their Ghana Premier League clash against FC Samartex.
The incident occurred at Ahyiresu on the Bibiani-Goaso road following their Matchday 29 clash against FC Samartex in Samreboi, where Berekum Chelsea had suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.
According to reports, the robbers blocked the road, forcing the team bus to a halt before launching the attack. Attempts by the driver to reverse away from the scene proved unsuccessful as the assailants advanced.
The situation quickly escalated, with gunshots reportedly being fired, causing panic among the players and technical staff. Several members of the team were forced to flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape harm.
The team had been travelling back to prepare for their next fixture against Medeama SC, but the shocking incident has now raised serious concerns about safety and security on matchday travels within the league.
