The Appointments Committee of Parliament has summoned activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor to appear before it following his allegations of bribery against committee members.

The accusations, which have attracted considerable public attention, were made ahead of the vetting session for Defence Minister-designate, Dr. Omane Boamah, on Tuesday, January 28.

In response to the claims, the Chairman of the Appointments Committee and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and harmful to the integrity of the parliamentary vetting process.

To address the matter, Ahiafor instructed the Clerk of the Committee to formally invite Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, and provide evidence to support his claims.

“I, Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Committee and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and the committee members do not demand money from nominees before vetting them,” he stated. “I will therefore direct the Clerk of the committee to invite Oliver Barker-Vormawor to provide evidence of these allegations.”

Barker-Vormawor, known for his outspoken criticism of government institutions, has not yet responded to the summons.

The bribery allegations suggest that committee members are demanding monetary or other forms of inducements from nominees prior to their vetting sessions.
