Local Governance expect Issaka Amon Kotei has described Government’s decision to appoint Public Relations Officers (PRO) as senseless and unnecessary employment facility for the unemployed.
Mr. Kotei explained that, it is of no importance to appoint such offices for individuals because it is not included in the concept of local Governance.
Speaking on PLAN B FM’s Morning Show dubbed Nkosuosem, he indicated that the concept of local Governance thus not require the need of public relations officers because MMDCE’s are supposed to work close with the members of the community and not with an intermediary which its termed as a public relations officer.
“District and municipal chief executive work are not too much of an office work, chief executives need to engage the people at all times without any intermediary because the chief executive himself represent the government in the district”, he stressed.
According to Mr. Kotei, employing individuals to fill in position as PRO’s for MMDCE’s it’s just an avenue to allow party members gain employment in municipal and district assemblies.
“No one is against the employment of party members but employing them should be done in a right way using a good avenue to consume the unemployed rate and not dubious means as what we are expecting”, he said.
Government has announced plans to assign Spokespersons and Press Secretaries for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives across the country.
According to information minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, this will enable MMDCEs to focus on their core job and also help them provide timely and adequate information to the public.
