Babara Baffoe and Pearl Lartey of the Tema General Hospital explain the importance of antenatal care to a baby and the mother during pregnancy on PlanB Fm’s Apomudenfie hosted by Ms Akua Okontie.
According to them Antenatal care is the care you get from health professionals during your pregnancy,It’s sometimes called pregnancy care or maternity care.
They went further explain that the mother will  be offered appointments with a midwife, or sometimes a doctor who specialises in pregnancy and birth (an obstetrician).
They advised that You start your antenatal care as soon as possible once you know you’re pregnant.
They also  advised that, the spouse of the pregnant mother accompanies her to the hospital. There, he would be educated on the cravings and mood swings his wife would go through during the period. He would also know how to take very good care of his wife during this period.
They disclosed that,it is safe to have sex during pregnancy unless your doctor says otherwise.
They concluded that, it is important to frequently visit the hospital for antenatal care during pregnancy due to the following reasons:
It helps detect abnormalities and preventable illnesses in mother and child. Expectant parents who have questions surrounding pregnancy can only get the correct Answers when they join antenatal class because of the support, health advice and guidance they are offered.
