Andy Appiah-Kubi, the outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North, has opened up about his loss in the 2024 general elections, attributing it to his bold advocacy on critical national issues.
The Independent Candidate, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, secured the seat with 26,926 votes, overshadowing Appiah-Kubi’s 8,933.
Speaking in an interview on December 8, Appiah-Kubi expressed no regrets about his principled stance on governance and economic management. Known for his calls to dismiss former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta over allegations of economic mismanagement, Appiah-Kubi acknowledged that his advocacy made him a target.
“In Asante Akim, I lost the seat. People made their choice, and I accept that without reservations,” he remarked. “If being outspoken cost me, I have no regrets. I’m alive, I have a fallback position, and I’m content with standing for what I believed in.”
Appiah-Kubi also announced his permanent exit from politics, stating, “I will retire to my professional legal practice. This marks the end of my political journey.” He called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to investigate its significant parliamentary losses nationwide.
The former MP’s reflections highlight a career defined by advocacy and a willingness to prioritize principle over political survival.
