The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is demanding the immediate shutdown of the University of Ghana, Legon (UG), if the school’s lecturers are not ready to return to the lecture halls.
Following an emergency meeting on Sunday, February 27, UG’s branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) resolved not to return to the lecture halls.
Mr Alex owusu press and information secretary for NUGS in an interview with Bohyeba Afriyie on plan B Fm’s Ebanoosen revealed that University of Ghana lecturers are making things very difficult for the leaders of UTAG and this is going to affect the students and also the negotiation process.
He said that they understand that their lectures deserve remunerations and the Government must quickly respond to that.
He also disclosed that information reaching them is that some lecturers were actually present to teach student yesterday March 28 and he thinks that’s actually a good sign that they have finally complied to the orders of their leaders.
He concluded that the lecturers should have the believe and trust in their leaders to take decisions in their best interest .
