All the things they said about the NPP stealing money were never true – Sheila Bartels

All the things they said about the NPP stealing money were never true – Sheila Bartels

A former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Sheila Bartels, has raised concerns about the credibility of political communication in Ghana, stressing that politicians should be held accountable for statements made while in opposition.

Bartels, in an interview with JoyNews on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, recounted an instance by reading a post by a sitting minister who admitted to being criticised for comments he made before his party came to power.

According to her, this reflects a broader problem where opposition rhetoric is often used as a tool to secure political advantage, regardless of its accuracy.

She argued that such tactics mislead the public and erode trust in governance.

“The motive for which they came and threw all these lies out…for me… is shocking because so many of these things they said at the time were wrong. And we know all Ghanaians are seeing it,” she said.

Bartels emphasised that Ghanaians are now able to compare past claims with present realities, noting that accusations once levelled against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have proven false.

“All of these things they were throwing out about the NPP regarding stealing money and all, they were never true. And now they are the ones confirming it,” she added.
