“In as much as traditional leaders are not allowed to involve in active politics, it is also not wrong if they express gratitude to government or any political figure” Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II has disclosed on Bryt fm.
He was of the view traditional leaders must be allowed to express their opinion on issues since they form part of the decentralization process of Ghana’s democratic governance.
The President of the National House of Chiefs was reacting to the erecting and unveiling of a statue of President Akufo-Addo at the forecourt of the Effia Nkwanta hospital in the Western region.
Ogyeahoho Gyebi II however, insisted the Akufo-Addo-led government has manifested a lot of developmental projects in the Western region and sees no wrong if traditional leaders in the area deem it fit to appreciate their good works.
On the issue of chiefs commending and asking for help from political leaders during visit to their traditional areas, the chief indicated he sees no wrng with that if only comments by the chiefs are not politicised.
