Sanitation challenges in Akplabanya, a town in the Ada West District, have once again come under the spotlight, following concerns raised by a member of the NPP communication team, Matthew Kitcher. Speaking on Plan B FM’s Ebanosen show, Kitcher dismissed claims by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Jerry John Foreigner Mills Nkrumah, that a clean-up exercise had been undertaken this year.
According to Kitcher, who is also a native of Akplabanya, the town remains engulfed in filth, with no evidence of communal labor or official clean-up initiatives. He stressed that the poor sanitation situation poses serious health risks to residents, especially with persistent issues such as open defecation and the lack of adequate public toilet facilities.
For many residents, the debate goes beyond political accusations and counterclaims. The pressing concern is the urgent need for lasting interventions to improve sanitation infrastructure and community health. Stakeholders are calling for stronger collaboration between the local assembly, opinion leaders, and the people of Akplabanya to ensure practical solutions rather than political rhetoric.
The renewed focus on Akplabanya’s sanitation crisis highlights the broader challenge of environmental health management in Ghana’s districts, where lapses in service delivery often leave vulnerable communities at risk.
