Agyarko Laments NPP’s Identity Crisis

There’s nothing more dangerous than a learned thief – Boakye Agyarko

Veteran New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Boakye Agyarko has criticized the party’s current direction. He urges leadership and members to return to the party’s founding ideals. He warns that failure to do so may lead to a loss of relevance and moral authority.

In his recent statement, “Teachings From Our Past: Things We Must Avoid,” Agyarko expressed concern about the party straying from its core principles. He believes the NPP is becoming fragmented and driven by narrow interests.

Agyarko stated, “The NPP is at a critical crossroads.” He added, “We have become a label—stripped of the soul, values, and principles that once bound us together.”

He noted that internal elections focus more on power and personal gain than on service or leadership. For him, this crisis is not just political; it is also moral.

“Our internal contests have become battlegrounds instead of mechanisms to choose the best among us,” he said. He lamented that the idea of service has been replaced by a scramble for opportunity.

Agyarko emphasized mass member registration and grassroots empowerment as essential for moving forward. He believes restoring ordinary members’ voices can help reclaim the party’s founding identity.

“We must move away from control to growing the party by empowering the rank and file,” he urged.
