Afotey-Agbo raises concerns over how people are elected to become MPs

Afotey-Agbo raises concerns over how people are elected to become MPs

A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone-Katamanso, and a former Greater Accra Regional Minister, and a current reagent of Kpone Katamanso traditional area, Mr. Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, has advised political parties and its constituents to focus on who they elect to represent them in parliament.

His comments come on the back of NDC MPs who voted to approve six new ministers appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo despite an earlier warning.

Speaking on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM on Monday 27 March, 2023  on what some NDC’s stalwarts and supporters see as a betrayal by their MPs after defying explicit orders of the party and voted massively for six new ministers appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mr. Afortey-Agbo recalled that in the military regime, people who were seen embezzling public funds were lined up and shot but bribery and corruption is still on the rise among members of parliament which he believes has contributed significantly to the retrogression of the country.

He further explained that all these problems are caused by the  NDC party and how they chooses it parliamentary candidate in various constituencies

“Some of the members of parliament have not been in the party for long and they use their money to get their way through so you can see that their loyalty is not for the party but for themselves, So why won’t they disobey the party’s directives”, he added

“I would have resigned if I were to contest for the flagbearership race in the NDC because most of our NDC MPs don’t listen to advice and i urge all the contestants in NDC’s flagbearership race to get prepared because things will get tougher with this kind of members of parliament” he concluded.
