Afenyo-Markin is NPP’s problem; he has brought down Parliament’s dignity – Professor Marfo

NPP Electoral Area Coordinators In Agona West Constituency Call For Investigations Into Destruction Of Party Register

Provost for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Charles Marfo, has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reconsider their decision on the leadership of Alexander Afenyo-Markin as the Minority Leader of Parliament.

According to him, Afenyo-Markin is part of the NPP’s problem.

He explained that he is one of the individuals who have brought down the dignity of Parliament.

The KNUST professor blasted him for his comments over protocol enlistments during the vetting of Defence Minister-designate Edward Omane Boamah.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on January 30, 2025, he stated, “Afenyo-Markin is part of the fallen glory of Parliament because if you are vetting someone and you tell the person that when you get to the office help me with protocol, then it means that you think you are joking but you are only confirming what we always say that they share the positions and slots for themselves.

“And you think such a person is not bringing down the sanity, image, and dignity of Parliament if there is one.

“Seriously, I think he is the problem. NPP, seriously, as a party, needs to reconsider its leadership at some point because there are other great people in the house. The Bible said that when you talk too much, you end up speaking trash.”

Afenyo-Markin, who doubles as the Ranking Member of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, humorously urged the Minister of Defence-designate, Dr.Edward Omane Boamah, not to deny him protocol enlistment into the army if approved by Parliament.

During his vetting in Parliament on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, he stated,” On a lighter note, the fact that I’m grilling you does not mean that when you get there, and you are supposed to give protocol allocation, you deny me. I’m telling you, you cannot. Because yes, there is. And committee members benefited.”

He went on to explain the history of protocol benefits.

“Yes, yes, there is something like that. When I was a Defence Committee member, your ranking and your members benefited. I am saying it on authority. They did. And they even had more than we NPP members. They did, that’s a fact.”

“So, I’m telling you that when you are giving, don’t think that because I grilled you, you will not allocate,” he said, emphasizing his point.
