In what is shaping up to be one of the most explosive political statements ahead of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, former National Chairman candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Richard Amoako Baah has openly accused the party’s Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, of corruption, demanding his immediate removal.
“Afenyo Markin is one, I can tell you that,” Dr Baah declared on ABC News Ghana, referring to his call for the dismissal of corrupt elements within the party.
“The bad ones should be weeded out.”
Dr Baah cited Afenyo-Markin’s “unexplained wealth” as a key reason why the party must act.
“If someone is doing the country wrong, they should be sacked,” he said, adding that the NPP cannot continue to preach about integrity while shielding individuals accused of wrongdoing.
His direct naming of the high-ranking MP has sparked intense discussion within party circles, as calls grow for a more transparent investigation into the wealth and dealings of party officials.
The accusation is part of Dr Baah’s broader attack on what he sees as the NPP’s moral decay.
“The party is driven by money and not values,” he said, blaming this shift for the party’s dwindling moral authority. He warned that failure to act would damage the party’s chances in future elections and erode the trust of its supporters.
“The party should take a position,” he urged, calling for a decisive break from the culture of impunity.
