AJ Auxerre left-back, Gideon Mensah has been withdrawn from the Black Stars squad ahead of Madagascar game due to injury.
According to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), due to a knee injury, the full-back was excused from Ghana’s first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
The team doctor of the Black Stars, Dr. Prince Pambo said that after the assessment by the medical staff, it is important for the player to sit out the qualifier against Madagascar to avoid making the injury worse.
“Gideon picked up a knee injury during the season but his club managed him conservatively until the end of the season. Upon assessment in camp on Monday, we decided to excuse him from this game in order not to aggravate the injury,” he told ghanafa.org.
“We expect him to have enough rest during the break to be able to recover on time for next season,” Dr. Pambo added.
Chris Hughton’s side will continue with their preparations at the Accra Sports stadium on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
Ghana will play Madagascar in a Group E clash on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
