Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has apologized for the team’s abysmal performance at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
The Black Stars failed to progress to the round of 16 stage from Group B picking up just two points from three games.
Ghana lost 1-2 to Cape Verde and drew 2-2 with Mozambique and Egypt respectively to exit the competition early for the second edition in a row.
The poor performance of the team drew the ire of Ghanaians who blasted the team’s attitude in the aftermath of the exit amid claims of lacking drive and patriotism.
Veteran forward Ayew, in a video, apologized for the Stars 2023 AFCON campaign and assured that the team will put Ghana’s flag where it belongs.
“I would like to apologize for the results in the AFCON that we just exited. We know that we should have done better; that we should have brought better results to the nation. As the captain of the squad, I take full responsibility for what happened on the pitch.”
“For the playing body , we should have done better” he added to the apology released exactly a week after Ghana’s elimination from the 2023 AFCON was confirmed.
