Adopt healthy lifestyle to avoid the hospital – Public advised

Public Health Nurses with the Tema General Hospital, Madam Justin and Abena,  have advised the general public to cultivate the habit of living a healthy lifestyle to enable one to thrive.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship, and lifestyle show dubbed NYANSAPO FIE, hosted by Nana Asabea, they advised  the public to eat a well-balanced, low-fat diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

“Choose a diet that’s low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and moderate in sugar, salt and total fat. Be physically active for 30 minutes most days of the week. Break this up into three 10-minute sessions when pressed for time. Healthy movement may include walking, sports, dancing, yoga or running”

They also urged nursing mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding by giving infants breast milk for the first 6 months of life (no other food or water.

“It has the single largest potential impact on child mortality of any preventive intervention. Breast milk provides the ideal nutrition for infants. It has a nearly perfect mix of vitamins, protein, fat, and everything your baby needs to grow. And it’s all provided in a form more easily digested than infant formula. Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria”

Madam Justin added kids who have access to healthy foods at home will have an easier time developing good eating habits that they carry to school and other areas of their lives.

She also advised parents to train their kids when it comes to proper diet and nutrition to ensure proper growth and development to stay healthy.
