Adansi North Assembly Members chase out coordinating director over alleged misconduct

Adansi North Assembly Members chase out coordinating director over alleged misconduct

A group of aggrieved Assembly Members of the Adansi North District Assembly in the Ashanti Regiontook to the streets in protest on Wednesday, forcibly chasing out the district’s Coordinating Director, Mr. Thomas Kwame Okrah, from office over what they described as gross disrespect and abuse of power.

The protest escalated as the Assembly Members also forced all staff of the Assembly to vacate their offices, bringing operations to a halt.

It took the intervention of Fomena Police to restore calm.

According to the Assembly Members, Mr. Okrah, who serves as the Secretary to the Assembly, has been making unilateral decisions without consulting them, a move they say violates the Assembly’s regulations.

Akwasi Afoakwa, spokesperson for the aggrieved members and Assembly Member for Kusa Electoral Area, accused Mr. Okrah of manipulating the official list submitted to the Electoral Commission ahead of the Council of State representative elections scheduled for February 11, 2025.

“He handpicked his own Assembly Members to represent the district without consulting us, which is unconstitutional,” Afoakwa alleged.

Additionally, the Assembly Members accused Mr. Okrah of using the Assembly’s DRIP machines for commercial purposes without any proper regulatory framework.

The aggrieved members have given a three-day ultimatum to the government, the Regional Coordinating Council, traditional authorities (Nananom), and other key stakeholders to remove Mr. Okrah from his post or risk further action.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Dominic Odame Kusi, expressed concern over the situation, describing Mr. Okrah’s conduct as unacceptable and a threat to the Assembly’s smooth operation.

“His actions are causing unrest among members and staff.

Authorities must act swiftly to remove him to restore peace and order in the assembly,” Kusi urged.

The situation remains tense as the Assembly Members stand firm on their demand for Mr. Okrah’s immediate removal.
