Adabraka: Police on manhunt for armed robbers involved in daylight heist

Adabraka: Police on manhunt for armed robbers involved in daylight heist

The Ghana Police Service is on a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewellery shop at Adabraka on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

The brazen attack involved four heavily armed men who approached a man in a red Toyota Corolla, firing shots into the air to disperse the crowd.

Eyewitnesses said, shoppers and vendors scrambled for cover, ducking behind stalls as the gunfire echoed through the market.

The robbers forcibly opened the boot of the Toyota Corolla, seizing large sacks of cash before loading them into their own getaway vehicle and fleeing the scene.

One eyewitness described the terrifying ordeal saying, “We deal in gold here, and we heard a loud noise, and we realised it was a sporadic shooting. I can’t even talk because I’m surprised. We hid and locked our gate, but they didn’t come to our end. We heard them saying open the boot after which we saw them carrying bags of money from some of the shops. They spent some few minutes.”

“There are several gold dealer shops here, so one of the owners of the shops had bags containing monies in his Toyota Corolla, immediately he landed, the robbers approached the car and took the money away. This is the second time such an incident has happened. The police came in late, by the time they arrived, the armed robbers had bolted away with the bags of money in their Toyota Highlander. They fired multiple gunshots. They spread some money in the air to distract onlookers’ attention and scare them away”, another eyewitness narrated.

In a statement on November 2, the Ghana Police assured the public that they are actively pursuing the robbers and will bring them to justice.

Following the incident, Korle Klottey MP Zanetor Rawlings visited the crime scene, expressing concern over such incidents occurring in broad daylight just weeks to the elections.

She called on the police and the Ministry of the Interior to ensure the protection of citizens.
