The Chief Executive Officer of Accra Great Olympics, Kudjoe Fianoo, has strongly opposed a proposal seeking to extend the tenure of Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, describing the move as “not good for Ghana football.”
The proposal, which is expected to be tabled at the 31st Ordinary Congress scheduled to take place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, seeks to increase the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
Speaking on the sidelines of the official launch of the 2025 Plan B FM Inter-Community Soccer Gala, Mr. Fianoo, a former Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), said eight years is enough to develop Ghana football; hence there is no need for an additional four years.
“I have expressed my opinion several times about this extension of tenure. I think it will not be good for Ghana football, because if you have something to offer, eight years is enough for you to do that. Currently, CHAN is ongoing, Ghana is not there, and we will not be in the next Cup of Nations. I think they have done what they are capable of doing, and there is the need for new brains,” he stated.
The proposed amendment has sparked controversy within the football community, adding to ongoing debates about governance and leadership within the GFA.
Current GFA President Kurt Okraku, who assumed office in 2019, has yet to respond publicly to the growing dissent surrounding the proposed constitutional change.
