Ablekuma North Chaos: We’ll ‘Arm And Prepare’ For Akwatia – NPP’s Amfo Sefa

Tema West NCCE holds Parliamentary Candidates Dialogue

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tema West in the 2024 general election, Dennis Amfo Sefa, has condemned the violence that marred the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, describing it as a “dangerous precedent” allegedly set by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His remarks follow a violent incident earlier in the day where a group of unidentified macho men stormed a polling centre at St. Peter’s Methodist Church, disrupting the voting process and physically assaulting key NPP figures. Among the victims were NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former Fisheries Minister, Hawa Koomson.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One News, Mr. Amfo Sefa accused the NDC of resorting to violence to influence electoral outcomes.

“This is a sad and dangerous precedent that is being set by the NDC. Over the years, whenever there is a by-election, we in the NPP conduct ourselves democratically,” he stated.

When reminded by journalist Hanson Agyemang about similar violence during the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Amfoh-Sefa swiftly countered.

“Is that to say we should continue? If that is what you are saying, then it means we should prepare for Akwatia. We have to arm ourselves and get ready. And we will repeat it there,” he warned.

Issuing a strong message to NPP supporters, he added, “We are telling our boys and men: get ready, arm yourselves, and prepare for Akwatia. We will meet there and repeat the same thing that they [the NDC] have done in Ablekuma North.”
