Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has warned foreign embassies and consulates in Ghana against the maltreatment and inhumane treatment of Ghanaian visa applicants.
The Minister issued the warning on Monday, October 5, 2026, after visiting about 20 embassies and consulates in Accra to assess the treatment of Ghanaian applicants.
The exercise forms part of measures following a directive issued by Mr. Ablakwa after assuming office, aimed at ensuring that Ghanaian visa applicants are treated with dignity and fairness during the visa application process.
While acknowledging the right of foreign missions to assess and decide on visa applications, the Foreign Affairs Minister stressed that Ghana would not tolerate practices that subject its citizens to unfair, degrading or inhumane treatment.
Mr. Ablakwa commended foreign missions that have complied with his directive and improved their treatment of Ghanaian applicants.
He, however, warned that ambassadors of missions that have yet to comply with the directive would be summoned for further engagement.
The Minister’s position underscores government’s commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of Ghanaians seeking visas while maintaining respect for the sovereign authority of foreign missions to determine who qualifies for entry into their respective countries.
