President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Abdul-Rahman Mankir as the Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC), an agency under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

The announcement was made by the Ministry on its official Facebook page on February 4, 2025.

The GCMC, which was initially incorporated as a Private Limited Liability Company under the Companies Code, 1963 (Act 179) in 1998, became fully state-owned in 2018.

It was established to promote the widespread use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a substitute for charcoal and firewood, thereby addressing some of Ghana’s environmental challenges, including degradation, deforestation, and desertification caused by excessive reliance on firewood.

LPG currently accounts for over 71 percent of the energy consumed in the domestic sector.
